A new elementary school was approved by the voters in 1923. To provide room, the Town purchased property from Sherman Brummitt and houses on South Main St. from Mrs. Fred Hersey and Judge Sewall Abbott. Following the "Yankee thrift" attitude often found in the area, the houses were sold at auction and relocated for use at other locations. The new school was opened on September 24, 1925, with 10 classrooms. The name Carpenter was in memory of Mrs. Livonia Carpenter, mother of Wolfeboro's benefactor, George A. Carpenter.
