Ralph Merwin Horn was the founder of the Lakes Region Airpark and Seaplane Base. The property was originally a 100 acre maple syrup farm owned by his father. After the 1938 hurricane destroyed the maple trees, Ralph (an aviation enthusiast), got permission to clear the area and build an airport. The airport opened in 1945 and Ralph and his wife, Eleanor, were the owner/managers for decades. There was a 1500' unpaved runway with lights, an adjacent seaplane base, and hangars for maintenance and repairs. Ralph sold the airport in 1995 and died in 1997. Plans to develop the site lingered for many years, but eventually proved to be unsuccessful. The airport continued in operation, then finally closed about 2005.

The Wolfeboro Historical Society welcomes the donation of local photographs from the early days, as well as any details that may be found in ancestors attics.
