Dockside has been the most recognizable area in Wolfeboro for many years. Beginning as a fairly small wharf area, with the lake reaching close to the back of the Main Street buildings, there have been many changes. The railroad arrived in 1872, tracks ran right to the dock for connection to lake steamships, a massive fire in 1899 destroyed many buildings, the area was rebuilt, landfill expanded the area, Town and Cate Park were developed, a bandstand was added, and today Dockside is the focus of a wide variety of activities.
