Indian dugouts discovered at Hill Camp on Rust Pond, July 13, 1955, in 20' of water (the level 200 years ago was at least 10' lower than today) and about 90' off shore. The dugout size was about 14' long, 2' wide, 18" freeboard. The front remnants were not buried deeply on the lake bottom, and years of winter ice action planed off the sides. The rear dugout was deeper and less affected. Both were sunk with rocks, to keep them hidden for later use. They are now on exhibit in the Libby Museum.
