In 1935, this corner of South Main St. between Glendon St. and Central St. was occupied by Hobbs-Is-Inn, the last name of the original Glendon House built in 1872. After the hotel was razed, construction of the new Post Office was begun in 1936; completed and dedicated on May 1, 1937, and remains much the same today. The interior is also basically unchanged, and includes photos of the construction and a mural painted by a noted artist, funded by a grant as part of FDR's economic recovery program during the depression.
