The John Pickering Tavern on South Main St. was built by John, c. 1813. Photo is 1990. It later became the home of his brother, Daniel Pickering, one of the town's most prominent businessmen. The junction of South Main St. & Center St. is still known as "Pickering Corner". Subsequent to this photo, the building was not maintained and fell into a state of disrepair. However, a recent restoration has returned it beautifully into a showplace, as an inn and function location.
