Forest fire, 1955. This was a large fire, claiming 1800 acres on Mt. Shaw in Moultonboro, the tallest mountain in the Ossipee range. Starting June 22. hot spots were still around a month later. Wolfeboro was the command post for a fire fighting team that included members of Wolfeboro's National Guard Battalion, many local volunteers, and 400 soldiers from Camp Devens, Mass., about 95 miles south of Wolfeboro.
