Mr. & Mrs. Freelan O. Stanley climbed the Mt. Washington Carriage Rd. on Aug. 31, 1899 (the handwritten date is wrong). Their steamer, Locomobile #93, made the 7.6 mile climb in two hours. This feat demonstrated not only the capability of the little Locomobile steam carriage, but the viability of the automobile itself. This iconic photo was hand colored and is in the collection of the Stanley Museum.
