This is the pound at the New Durham Meeting House. Not a dog pound as we have today, this was to hold stray farm animals, such as horses, cattle, pigs and goats, that were found walking the roads. The owner had to pay a fine to retrieve his stock. Wolfeboro had pounds in several of the early separate communities. One is still maintained today, on private property in North Wolfeboro.
