Horace Rust's Grocery and General Store is at the turn on Route 28 across from Middleton Road in South Wolfeboro. The building still stands today. To the left, in the middle of the road continuation to Alton, is a watering trough with a gas lamp in the center. Behind the building (where the parking lot now ends) is the Monitor Hose Company building. Dating to 1862, this was the first Fire Company in Wolfeboro. The second floor was a community gathering center. The original fire equipment, now fully restored, is on display at the Clark Museum Complex. The card is c. 1905.
