Wolfeboro Historical Society Digital Archive Road Trips State Historic Markers

This monument at the Chinook Kennel site in Wonalancet honors a man who began driving at 9 years old, came to work at the kennels, and became an extremely successful driver for the Chinook Kennel team. He was part of a US military team exploring Antarctica with a team of Chinook Kennel dogs. Then, as WWII broke out, he led dog teams to Labrador and Europe to rescue downed aircrews when snow obstructed vehicles.
